About the club
Thame Cycling Club is a small, but rapidly growing, friendly club enabling members to enjoy social bike rides from Thame on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday mornings. While brisk, the pace is set so even a new rider with a good level of general fitness can enjoy it. We do not leave less fit riders on their own but depute an experienced member to accompany them.
To provide a change during the winter months we also organise training sessions at Calshot velodrome which prove popular, even addictive, and do much to improve riding skills.
We welcome new members and have several years’ experience in introducing novice riders to what is a technically demanding sport. New riders will learn how to ride safely in a group with such advice as is needed, provided informally before and during the ride. This non-patronising advice has proved especially popular with women who so often get a poor deal in sport.
You will need a road bike. If you do not have one you are welcome to ask us for advice before choosing from a bewildering large range.
For cyclists wishing to move on to competition we can offer advice on how to proceed to time-trialling, road-racing or track. To join us please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further information. There is no requirement to become a member in advance of up to 3 introductory rides allowed by our insurance through affiliation to British Cycling. We are also affiliated to Cycling Time Trials.
